Visual Studio Integration

PVF has features to help with rapid code development. PVF adds syntax coloring, Fortran intrinsics tips and keyword completion to the Visual Studio editor. PVF includes a complete Fortran build environment for Visual Studio with Fortran specific features such as automatic build dependency management. PVF is interoperable with Microsoft Visual C++ so Fortran sub-programs can call C functions and vice versa. PVF includes a number of DVF/CVF compatibility features including full support for the Win32 API. Sample projects illustrate building console applications, Windows applications, DLLs and static libraries, configuring and coding PGI Accelerator and CUDA Fortran GPU applications, and using Visual C++ in tandem with PVF.

PVF includes a Fortran language specific custom debug engine. The PVF debug engine supports debugging of single and multi-thread, OpenMP, multi-thread MSMPI and hybrid MSMPI+OpenMP Fortran applications. It enables debugging of 64-bit or 32-bit applications using source code or assembly code, and it provides full access to the registers and hardware state of the processors. The PVF debug engine is interoperable with Visual C++.

List Members

Typing a member access operator (for example, '.' in Java' or "->" in C++) displays a list of the members for the corresponding object or symbol. To access this feature on demand, press Alt+Dot.

• Show Comments - Comments are displayed in a mini HTML window which supports rendering Javadoc, Doxygen, and XMLdoc comments. When a symbol has multiple definitions or overloads, and multiple sets of comments, the comments will indicate that you are looking at item "< 1 of n >". Click on the arrows or use Ctrl+PgUp and Ctrl+PgDn to cycle through the comment sets.
  
• Completion on Space - Pressing the spacebar when List Members is displayed will insert the longest unique matching prefix from the symbols in the list. For example, if the list contains FLAG_CHAR and FLAG_LONG, then typing FL completes the line of code up to FLAG_.

Code Navigation
Use (Ctrl+Dot) to jump from a symbol to its definition. Use (Ctrl+/) to list all of the references for the current symbol and optionally jump to the first reference. These operations set a bookmark that can be popped to return you to the previous location (Ctrl+Comma). Use (Ctrl+Dot) to jump from a symbol to the symbol definition.

Dynamic Surround
Surround existing lines of code with block statements or tags. Dynamic Surround allows you to expand a block after syntax expansion, using the arrow keys to move the end of the block up or down. Surround With allows you to select lines and then choose a block structure or tag.

XML/HTML Formatting
Content in XML and HTML files may be set to automatically wrap and format as you edit according to user-defined formatting schemes. A formatting scheme is comprised of any number of XML or HTML tags, each of which can be configured individually for indent levels, wrapping, and tag structure. Multiple schemes can be defined for example, you may want one scheme for HTML files and another for XML files, or perhaps you are required to code certain files to various standards. Schemes can be saved and imported, so they can be shared with your team. Tags for each scheme can be entered manually or you can import tags from the current file.
